Pine needles have been used in traditional medicine for centuries, and now they are gaining more attention due to their health benefits. Pine needles are packed with nutrients and contain anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial properties that can help improve overall health. They can be used to boost the immune system, reduce inflammation, improve digestion, and used topically in oil infusions for skin and scalp benefits.

Pine needles are also known for their antiseptic properties, which can help reduce inflammation and promote healing. Additionally, pine needles contain antioxidants that can help protect cells from damage caused by free radicals.

Pine needles have a wide range of benefits that make them an important part of any home or garden. I'm lucky enough to have white pine needle trees in my backyard and have frequently picked some for tea or to make an antidandruff oil treatment for the scalp.

Have a cold or some trapped congestion? Pine needle tea to the rescue. Simply pick a handful of pine needles (make sure they are a safe variety to consume and choose from an area that is not sprayed with pesticides). Rinse well and boil in water for about 8-10 minutes. Strain and add sweetener of choice. This is a wonderful old school remedy aka backyard medicine.

*Pine needle should not be consumed my pregnant or nursing women. It has been shown to contract the uterus and there is a risk of miscarriage.
